Bedell

This is a handcrafted Bedell Bahia Parlor, built in Bend, Oregon — and the guitar shown in these photographs is the exact instrument you will receive. Constructed with an Adirondack spruce top and rare, naturally aged Brazilian rosewood back and sides, this parlor delivers a voice that far exceeds its compact dimensions: large, open projection, crystalline clarity, rich harmonic complexity, and sustain that rewards both the player and the listener. Whether you are fingerpicking in a quiet room, flatpicking on a stage, recording in a studio, or performing unplugged, the Bahia Parlor meets every demand with authority and warmth.

The Story of the Brazilian Rosewood

Decades ago, Brazilian rosewood logs were harvested in northeastern Brazil and shipped to a small company outside Madrid, Spain. There they remained in storage, naturally aging and curing over the years in the Spanish climate — unhurried, undisturbed, and slowly becoming something exceptional. In 2013, Bedell acquired Madinter's legally documented collection of this aged Brazilian rosewood and paired it with Adirondack spruce for the Bahia series. The result is tonewoods with a depth of character that simply cannot be rushed or replicated.

Why This Guitar Is Exceptional

  • Adirondack spruce top: Stiff, strong, and highly responsive — known for its powerful projection, dynamic range, and ability to open up further with age and play.
  • Aged Brazilian rosewood back and sides: Dense, complex, and naturally cured — delivering warmth, sustain, and harmonic richness that Indian rosewood cannot match.
  • Hand-voiced construction: Bedell's luthiers voice each top by hand, tuning the bracing to the specific piece of wood for optimal resonance and response.
  • Compound tapered dovetail neck joint: A precision joint that maximizes energy transfer between neck and body, contributing to the guitar's sustain and note definition.
  • Parlor body comfort: Smaller and lighter than a dreadnought, the parlor shape sits naturally against the body and delivers surprising volume, note separation, and midrange presence.
  • Pure acoustic tone: No electronics — designed for mic'd recording sessions, intimate performances, and players who want nothing between them and the wood.
  • Waverly tuners with ebony buttons: Among the finest tuning machines available, offering smooth, precise, and reliable tuning stability.
