The Peavey HP2 represents the final and most refined evolution of the iconic EVH Wolfgang design. To understand its importance, it helps to know the story behind Eddie Van Halen’s partnership with Hartley Peavey.
In the early 1990s, after Eddie’s collaboration with Ernie Ball Music Man on the original EVH Signature “Wolfgang” ended, he turned to Hartley Peavey to bring his next-generation ideas to life. Peavey’s state-of-the-art CNC facility and engineering precision allowed Eddie to refine every detail—neck profile, body contour, electronics, and hardware—to create what he considered his ultimate performance guitar. The result was the Peavey Wolfgang series (1996–2004), one of the most respected artist collaborations in modern guitar history.
At the same time, Peavey and Eddie co-developed the legendary 5150 amplifier, later renamed the 6505 after their partnership ended. When Eddie signed with Fender to produce the EVH Wolfgang guitars and 5150 amps under his own brand, Hartley Peavey retained the right to continue the core designs under new names—HP2 for “Hartley Peavey,” and 6505 for the amp line. Both carried forward the DNA of the originals, often with subtle improvements in build consistency, finish quality, and materials.
The HP2 NOS series offered here is especially significant: built from Eddie’s original private reserve tonewoods—the same stock personally selected and stored at Peavey during the Wolfgang era. Only 400 guitars were crafted from this limited supply, making them among the rarest and most historically important Peavey instruments ever produced. The HP2 is not just a continuation of the Wolfgang—it’s an improvement, capturing the peak of Peavey’s collaboration with Eddie Van Halen and the closing chapter of one of the most creative artist-manufacturer relationships in guitar history.

These were among the very last instruments produced from Eddie Van Halen’s original private reserve tonewoods—aged 30 + years and stored under Peavey’s supervision since the original Wolfgang era.
During production of the limited 400-unit HP2 NOS run, Peavey found that the finest results came from their team of Czech master luthiers. The Czech NBE workshop was selected specifically for its exceptional precision and tonewood handling—critical given the rarity and value of the EVH stock. The guitars built toward the end of the run, including this one, reflect everything Peavey learned throughout the series, achieving superior consistency, resonance, and finish quality.
